In a bold statement reflecting the political landscape as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State asserted that a party in control of 31 states should not be intimidated , specifically referencing the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His comments came during a recent gathering of governors at the National Economic Council (NEC), where key issues concerning state governance and security were discussed.
At the meeting, an overwhelming majority of state governors expressed their support for the state policing initiative, with 35 out of 37 endorsing the policy. This significant consensus indicates a unifying effort among the states to enhance local law enforcement and address rising security challenges across Nigeria.
Gov. Sule emphasized that the political strength of a party that governs such a substantial number of states offers it a considerable advantage. He suggested that the ADC, despite its aspirations, poses little threat given the current dominance of his party.
This stance comes amid a backdrop of increasing public discourse on security reform and the need for more localized governance solutions. The proposed state policing initiative is seen as a strategic move to empower local authorities and better respond to the unique security needs of different regions.
The endorsement of this policy of governors reflects a collective responsibility to tackle pressing security issues and reinforce the effectiveness of law enforcement across the country. As Nigeria heads toward the 2027 elections, the political dynamics continue to evolve, with parties assessing their strengths and strategies for local and national governance.
