Millions of people across the UK are being warned to check their WiFi settings as a critical feature could inadvertently expose their networks to security risks. Cybersecurity experts are urging users to disable a default setting that could leave them vulnerable to unauthorized access.
The warning comes as reports have emerged indicating that many routers come with a feature known as “WPS” (WiFi Protected Setup) enabled . While WPS is designed to make connecting devices to a network easier, it has been identified as a significant security flaw. Hackers can exploit this feature using automated tools, allowing them to gain access to private networks more easily.
Experts are advising users to take immediate action to ensure their home and office networks remain secure. “It’s essential to check your router settings as soon as possible,” said a cybersecurity analyst. “Disabling WPS can protect you from potential intruders who may use it to crack your WiFi password.”
