Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced the launch of Cocoon (Confidential Compute Open Network), a decentralized network that will merge artificial intelligence with the TON blockchain. The much-anticipated project is set to go live in November, as revealed during Durov’s address at the Blockchain Life 2025 conference in Dubai.
In his speech, Durov expressed concern over the current trajectory of the digital world, highlighting a growing trend where individuals are increasingly deprived of their digital freedoms. He argued that the rise of decentralized technologies is crucial for the preservation of these liberties in an era marked and privacy concerns.
“To safeguard our digital identities and rights, we must embrace the very technologies that empower us,” Durov stated, emphasizing the role of decentralization as a solution to the threats posed to individual freedoms online.
In a light-hearted moment, Durov shared a humorous anecdote about his initial thoughts on naming the project. He considered the title “Private AI Network,” which he acronymized as P.A.I.N., before ultimately opting for the more encompassing Cocoon. This name reflects a vision of creating a safe and secure digital environment where users can interact with advanced AI technologies without compromising their privacy.
As the tech industry pivots towards greater integration of AI and blockchain, Cocoon aims to position itself at the forefront of this convergence its users can leverage powerful tools while maintaining control over their data. With a launch date just around the corner, anticipation is building among developers and potential users eager to explore what the network has to offer.
