Daniel Illescas emerged victorious in the latest season of ‘El Desafío’ on Friday night, taking home a prize of €30,000, a car, and the applause of the audience on Antena 3. After twelve weeks in one of the most competitive editions of the show, Illescas maintained his status as a favorite from the start. In the final challenge, the influencer executed an intricate dance routine on a suspended staircase, blending dance with acrobatics.
However, in post-victory interviews, Illescas revealed that the final gala was not the most challenging test he faced during the competition. Instead, he credited his toughest feat to the challenge he tackled two weeks prior during episode 10, where he had to solve a Rubik’s Cube while holding his breath underwater. “That was like two challenges in one, like night and day. Facing two completely different trainings and practicing them in a short time was the most complicated challenge,” he stated in an interview with El Confidencial.
Ultimately, Illescas triumphed after a tense two minutes and three seconds, during which he appeared to struggle in the final moments, raising concerns about whether he would succeed. His victory came after a rare tie in the jury’s scoring, which necessitated a second evaluation, placing him against Willy Bárcenas, who narrowly missed victory with his balancing act on a flaming tightrope.
That evening, the program garnered a 13.2% audience share, with 1,136,000 viewers tuning in. ‘El Desafío’ has consistently dominated its Friday night slot, maintaining an average share of 12.7% in March. Part of this audience success can likely be attributed to captivating personalities like Illescas. He also expressed his comfort on television, having previously broken the ice with ‘MasterChef Celebrity’, and believes that television and content creation can effectively coexist.
The finale attracted a higher viewership, reaching a 15.4% share and 1,244,000 viewers, once again leading the night’s programming. However, it was reported to be the least-watched final since the show began, experiencing a slight decline from the season’s premiere, which garnered a 17% share and 1,578,000 viewers. Nevertheless, the format remains a reliable asset for the network, and while not officially confirmed, it is expected that the show will return next January.
