A new COVID-19 variant known as BA.3.2, dubbed the “Cicada” strain, is making its way across the United States, raising concerns among health officials and the public alike. Detected in 25 states, this variant has exhibited what experts describe as “immune escape characteristics,” meaning it may have the ability to evade the protection provided prior infections.
The emergence of the Cicada variant comes amid a fluctuating backdrop of COVID-19 case numbers. In some regions, cases have seen a resurgence, prompting renewed discussions about public health measures and vaccine effectiveness.
