Ultimate Health HMO seeks enforcement of health insurance coverage for Nigerian employees

Ultimate Health Management Services Ltd, a prominent health maintenance organization (HMO) in Nigeria, is calling for stricter enforcement of health insurance coverage for employees nationwide. The initiative is aligned with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act introduced in 2022, which aims to improve access to health services for all Nigerians.

During a recent media briefing in Lagos, Lekan Ewenla, the Managing Director and CEO of Ultimate Health, expressed concerns about the current state of health insurance uptake among Nigerian workers. He emphasized the need for more comprehensive coverage and greater adherence to the regulations set forth . Ewenla highlighted that while the legislation provides a framework for universal health coverage, actual implementation has been hampered .

The company has recently launched a new health insurance product designed specifically to address the needs of Nigerian employees. This product aims to enhance the existing health insurance offerings and make them more accessible to a broader demographic. Ewenla believes that increased awareness and education about health insurance are crucial for driving enrollment and ensuring that employees can take full advantage of the benefits available to them.

At the event, Dr. Austin Aipoh, President of the Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria, underscored the vital role that health insurance plays in fostering a healthier workforce. He urged both employers and employees to prioritize health coverage, noting that it not only improves individual well-being but also boosts overall productivity.

Mrs. Esther Kanayo, representing the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, echoed these sentiments, stressing the responsibility of employers to provide adequate health insurance for their staff. She called for collaborative efforts between stakeholders to overcome the barriers to effective health insurance coverage.

The push for better enforcement of health insurance coverage is expected to pave the way for improved health outcomes for employees across Nigeria, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth. As companies like Ultimate Health lead the charge, the hope is that a culture of health awareness and proactive healthcare management will take root among the workforce.
