The limited series reboot *Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair* is less than two weeks away from premiering, and the creators are feeling optimistic about the new direction of storytelling, prompting discussions for a full reboot of the show.
In this limited series, everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family, first introduced on Fox in 2000, reunites, much to the chagrin of Frankie Muniz’s title character. Now estranged from his boisterous clan, Malcolm navigates life happily partnered and raising a similarly neurotic daughter. Complications arise as he is thrust back into the fold during Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois’ (Jane Kaczmarek) 40th wedding anniversary celebration.
Many original cast members return, though Erik Per Sullivan’s Dewey has been recast with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. Newcomers include Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan, and Keeley Karsten, who plays Malcolm’s daughter Leah.
When asked by *Entertainment Weekly* in the publication’s cover story whether a reboot, potentially a gender-swapped spinoff focusing on Leah, could be next, Kaczmarek responded, “It’s a whole new set of characters and circumstances that are ripe.”
Revival executive producer Tracy Katsky Boomer remarked, “She could absolutely hold a show.” Original show creator Linwood Boomer, who also serves as an executive producer on *Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,* echoed this sentiment, stating, “Keeley is an undiscovered star. As a performer, she has this crazy potential that would be silly for show business not to use.”
Moreover, although Muniz is currently focused on his career as a full-time NASCAR driver, he expressed to *EW* that he remains open to future acting projects.
As fans eagerly await the premiere of the first four episodes on April 10th, all eyes will be on the audience’s reception. The results may determine whether *Malcolm in the Middle* enjoys a longer revival. Would viewers be excited to see the show return for a more extended run?
