Alison Brie Was “Really Excited” to Play Evil-Lyn in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: “Just Unlike Anything I’ve Ever Really Done”

Alison Brie is stepping into full-on supervillain territory as Evil-Lyn in the upcoming *Masters of the Universe* movie, and it sounds like she had an absolute blast doing it. The live-action film, directed , is set to hit theaters on June 5, and Brie couldn’t be more thrilled about diving into a role that allows her to stretch beyond her usual work.

“I watched a bunch of the old cartoon, and she really is like a classic femme fatale character, but with a sense of humor,” she told *USA Today*. “Just unlike anything I’ve ever really done.”

Brie has built her career on grounded, character-driven performances in shows like *Mad Men* and *Community*, where subtlety and realism were key. In contrast, Evil-Lyn inhabits a heightened world where everything is amplified. “A lot of the work that I’ve done, everything is about reality,” she explained.

This unique role provided Brie with an opportunity to explore a completely different facet of storytelling. The world of *Masters of the Universe* embraces fantasy, spectacle, and larger-than-life personalities, allowing Brie to play in a new, vibrant sandbox.

“The whole point” of the latest *Masters of the Universe*, she noted, “is that everybody is larger than life—some people physically, this character more just in her evilness. It was so fun to work on, and the cast is great.”

The film features Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, alongside a stacked lineup of supporting characters drawn from the iconic franchise.

For Brie, this project also represents a refreshing shift from more intimate films like the horror thriller *Together*, where she starred opposite her husband, Dave Franco. Transitioning from indie storytelling to a massive fantasy epic has given her what she calls an “expanse into this new world,” and it’s clear she appreciates that shift.

Evil-Lyn herself has a long legacy, originally voiced in the classic 1980s cartoon and later brought to life in the 1987 film. Now, Brie gets to put her own spin on the character, blending that classic femme fatale energy with a modern edge.

The story follows Prince Adam, who crash-landed on Earth as a child and grew up far from his home planet of Eternia. After rediscovering his Power Sword years later, he is pulled back into a cosmic battle against Skeletor. To save Eternia, Adam must unlock his past and transform into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.

While He-Man’s journey is central to the plot, it’s clear that characters like Evil-Lyn will bring significant depth and flavor to the story. If Brie’s enthusiasm is any indication, audiences can expect a portrayal of Evil-Lyn that is playful, dangerous, and just a little bit unpredictable.
