The inaugural Abibitumi Abibifahodie Film Festival (AAFF) is set to launch this November, marking a significant milestone in celebrating Abibitumi, or ‘Black Power’, and Abibifahodie, meaning ‘Black Liberation’, through the art of cinema and storytelling. Scheduled to take place from November 28 to 30, 2025, the festival will be hosted at Ozone Cinema, located in Oyarifa Mall, Accra, while offering simultaneous digital screenings for audiences around the world.
This groundbreaking festival seeks to showcase works from filmmakers and storytellers across the Black diaspora, emphasizing the rich tapestry of narratives that highlight the struggles, victories, and cultural heritage of Black communities globally. The AAFF aims to create a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, inviting filmmakers to present films that resonate with the themes of empowerment and liberation.
Attendees can look forward to an exciting lineup of films that reflect the dynamic experience of Black identity and culture. Screenings will include feature films, documentaries, and shorts, followed and panels with creatives, scholars, and activists in the realm of film and social justice.
With both in-person and virtual components, the festival hopes to reach a wide audience, fostering dialogue around critical issues affecting Black communities and celebrating their achievements. The organizers are committed to creating an inclusive environment conducive to collaboration, learning, and understanding through the medium of film.
