West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that the party is involved in a “grave conspiracy” in collusion with the Election Commission. Banerjee accused the BJP of manipulating the electoral rolls through the submission of thousands of fraudulent Form 6 applications, which are used to register new voters.
During a press conference, Banerjee asserted that the BJP’s motive behind this alleged manipulation is to introduce “outsiders” into the voter list, aiming to “hijack” the mandate of the upcoming assembly elections. She pointed to analogous tactics employed in states like Maharashtra and Delhi as evidence of their alleged strategy.
The Chief Minister emphasized the potential risks of such actions, asserting that they undermine the integrity of the electoral process. “This is not just an attempt to increase their numbers; it is a direct assault on the democratic framework that we have built,” Banerjee stated, calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.
Banerjee’s allegations come in the wake of increasing tensions between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, with the latter having made significant inroads in West Bengal over the past few years. The Chief Minister urged the Election Commission to take swift action against the BJP to preserve the sanctity of the electoral process in the state.
The BJP has yet to respond to Banerjee’s accusations, but the growing friction between the two parties signals a contentious electoral battle ahead as West Bengal prepares for its assembly elections. As the political landscape shifts, both parties are likely to intensify their campaigns to sway voters ahead of the crucial polls.
