Ludhiana Member of Parliament, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has raised serious concerns regarding the operational status of the Haibowal Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and the failure of the sewage management model in Tajpur. During a recent inspection, Bittu discovered that the ETP, which is crucial for treating industrial waste, has been shut down since October, posing significant environmental and health risks to the surrounding communities.
The ETP, established to address pollution concerns in the region, has reportedly been non-functional for several months, leading to untreated effluents being discharged into near. Residents have expressed their frustration over the increasing foul smell and unsanitary conditions resulting from the negligence of the plant’s operation.
In addition to the ETP situation, Bittu highlighted the collapse of the Tajpur sewage model, which was intended to provide a comprehensive solution for waste management in the area. He criticized the local authorities for their lack of accountability and urged them to take immediate action to restore both the ETP and the sewage system.
Bittu emphasized that the government must prioritize environmental integrity and public health, demanding that officials put in place a workable plan to rectify the existing issues. He has vowed to escalate the matter if tangible improvements are not made promptly, as the current state of affairs poses a significant threat to residents and the environment alike.
As concerns escalate, residents and environmental activists are calling for immediate intervention from the government to address these pressing issues, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions to safeguard their community’s health and well-being.
