In a recent address, P. Shanmugam, the State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Left to workers’ rights and the broader goals of the Secular Progressive Alliance. His remarks come in the wake of upcoming elections, where he reiterated that while electoral politics may change, the fundamental principles of the Left remain constant.
Shanmugam underscored the importance of solidarity among the working class, stating that the CPI(M) has always stood for the rights and welfare of laborers. He stressed that the party is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced various sectors, particularly in light of economic uncertainties and job insecurities heightened global situation.
Moreover, he highlighted the significance of the Secular Progressive Alliance in the current political landscape, which seeks to unite various factions against the ruling BJP-AIADMK alliance. “Our objective is clear: we must come together to defend the secular fabric of our society and ensure that the rights of all citizens are upheld,” Shanmugam remarked. He encouraged all like-minded parties to unify their efforts to challenge the adverse policies that threaten diversity and equality in the region.
Shanmugam reiterated that the election process should not just be about political victories but rather an opportunity to reinforce a commitment to social justice and equity. “Elections come and go, but our basic principles don’t change. We remain dedicated to creating a more inclusive and equitable society,” he said, calling upon voters to make informed choices that reflect their aspirations for a fair and just political and economic system.
Looking ahead, the CPI(M) leader expressed confidence in the Alliance’s ability to mobilize support among the electorate, particularly among youth and marginalized communities. He insisted that active participation in the political process is vital for safeguarding democratic values.
As the political discourse intensifies ahead of the elections, P. Shanmugam’s statements serve as a reminder of the foundational ideals of the Left and the importance of collaboration among progressive forces to confront the challenges posed government.
