A coroner has declared that Barry Podmore, a missing prospector from Western Australia, is likely dead after failing to return from a solo expedition nearly a month ago. Podmore, who embarked on a journey to explore a quartz line near Karroun Hill Reserve in December 2024, was reported missing when he did not return home.
His family reported him missing after he left with plans to search for gold. The search operation, which involved local authorities and volunteers, spanned several regions but ultimately yielded no results. Family members expressed their grief and concern, pleading for any information that could lead to discovering what happened to Podmore.
Despite the coroner’s conclusion, a dedicated volunteer has vowed to continue the search for Podmore. This individual, who has spent several weekends combing through the dense terrain around Karroun Hill, believes that there is still a chance he might be found. “It’s not over until we find him,” the volunteer stated. “We owe it to his family to keep looking.”
Podmore’s daughters have been actively involved in the search efforts, sharing their father’s story on social media in hopes of engaging the community’s support. They described him as an adventurous spirit with a passion for gold prospecting, and they continue to hold onto hope.
As the coroner prepares to finalize an investigation into Podmore’s disappearance, law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about his last known whereabouts to come forward. The community remains united in its support, with many expressing their condolences to the family during this difficult time. The search may be winding down officially, but the resolve of both the family and the ongoing volunteer efforts highlights the strong ties within the local community.
