The mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, has unveiled an ambitious plan to position the city as a prime destination for tourists during the 2026 World Cup. Dubbed the “Mérida Between Goals” program, this initiative aims to attract up to 200,000 visitors from around the globe.
Patrón Laviada emphasized the importance of the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted States, Canada, and Mexico, in enhancing the region’s visibility and boosting the local economy. “This is a unique opportunity for Mérida to showcase its rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and beautiful landscapes,” she stated during the launch event.
