Agents are often spotted wearing ill-fitting cargo shorts, wrinkled t-shirts, and scuffed sneakers that evoke images of a weekend barbecue rather than serious law enforcement duties. The nature of the work performed a level of seriousness and respect. Their role entails enforcing immigration laws, conducting investigations, and upholding national security. In a world where first impressions matter, the men and women of ICE would do well to consider how their appearance affects both their credibility and the essential work they perform. Reinventing their wardrobe—if not altogether, at least a step towards better presentation—might be a necessary start in regaining the respect of the very communities they aim to protect and serve.
