Over 50 industrial units have submitted applications for piped natural gas (PNG) connections at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Chinchwad camp, reflecting a growing demand for cleaner energy sources within the industrial sector. This surge in applications signals a shift as industries look for more cost-effective and environmentally friendly options for energy consumption.
The MIDC has been proactive in facilitating these applications, aimed at expanding the reach of PNG in the region. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage industries to transition from traditional fuels to natural gas, which is not only efficient but also contributes to reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Local officials highlighted that the increasing interest from manufacturers underscores the importance of sustainable energy solutions, especially in the wake of rising concerns over environmental impact and energy costs. The switch to PNG is anticipated to lower operating costs for enterprises, making it an attractive alternative to conventional fuels.
In response to this growing trend, the MIDC is streamlining the application process to ensure a swift and efficient rollout of PNG connections. The regional administration is optimistic that this move will enhance the overall competitiveness of industries while aligning with national objectives for cleaner energy usage.
This development comes at a time when the government is promoting the use of natural gas in various sectors, recognizing its potential to play a significant role in India’s energy transition. As more industrial units integrate PNG into their operations, the initiative is expected to foster not only economic growth but also a commitment to environmental sustainability.
