Raw Farm, a dairy producer based in California, has announced a voluntary recall of its cheddar cheese following reports of nine confirmed cases of E. coli across three states. The company, while complying with the recall, has stated that it does not believe its products are responsible for the outbreak.
The recall affects several batches of cheddar cheese distributed in California, Nevada, and Arizona. The decision comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health departments began investigating the E. coli cases, which resulted in several hospitalizations.
In a press release, Raw Farm emphasized its commitment to food safety and outlined the precautions it takes to ensure the health of its consumers. The company pointed out that its production processes adhere to stringent safety guidelines and reiterated that it does not believe the E. coli cases can be traced back to its products.
Despite the denial of responsibility, health officials are advising consumers to check their pantries for Raw Farm cheddar cheese and discard any products that might fall within the affected batches. They have also encouraged anyone who experiences symptoms of E. coli infection, such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, or vomiting, to seek medical attention promptly.
The voluntary recall is part of a broader effort to address public health concerns and protect consumers amidst the growing number of reported illnesses. The company is cooperating with ongoing investigations and is determined to resolve the matter swiftly while maintaining transparent communication with the public.
As this situation continues to develop, health officials reiterate the importance of safe food handling practices and urge consumers to stay informed regarding food recalls and safety alerts. The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
