El Centre d’Investigacions Film-Història de la UB colabora en el BCN Film Festival-San Jordi

The upcoming Sant Jordi festival will bring a new event to the city of Barcelona: the First International Film Festival of Barcelona-Sant Jordi, which will be held from April 21 to 28 at the Cinemes Verdi in the Gràcia neighborhood.

Organized (Cinemes Verdi) and the Educacine Festival (DeCine21), this new festival aims to become a significant meeting point for the public of Barcelona. Just like the emblematic Sant Jordi celebration, it embodies a popular spirit and is open to all audiences and genres. The programming director is film critic José María Aresté.

With the collaboration of the Centre d’Investigacions Film-Història, the BCN Film Festival-Sant Jordi will feature five sections: the Official section, focusing on films related to the central theme of the festival: Cinema-History-Literature; Cinema amb Gràcia, showcasing a selection of comedies that pay tribute to the Gràcia neighborhood; Zona Oberta, which will open the festival to different types of films and audiences; Imprescindibles, featuring four masterpieces from cinema history selected ’s festival “godfather,” historian and filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier; and Exhibition On Screen, presenting a selection of high-quality documentaries about great painters of all time.

Among the 35 films that will be screened, the opening film will be *Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer* , which will be presented and star Richard Gere on April 21. The festival will also screen previously unreleased films, such as *Afterimage*, the last film directed Wajda before his passing, which will be introduced Caparrós, emeritus professor at the University of Barcelona and founder of the Centre d’Investigacions Film-Història, followed by a discussion.

Other notable screenings include *Their Finest* directed , which will feature a discussion led Alonso, a professor at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) and a member of the Centre Film-Història, scheduled for Tuesday, April 25; *Churchill*, with its director Jonathan Teplitzky and commentary Sánchez Barba, deputy director of Centre Film-Història and professor of Contemporary History at the University of Barcelona, which will have its world premiere on Wednesday, April 26; and *Un sac de billes* (*A Bag of Marbles*) , followed by a talk with Dr. Rafael de España, co-founder of the Centre Film-Història, scheduled for Thursday, April 27.

The festival will conclude on Friday, April 28, with the premiere of *Patriots Day*, directed , a film about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and the awarding of festival prizes.
