Taipei, April 9 (CNA) – During a visit to the Marshall Islands, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung announced on Wednesday that Taiwan will contribute an additional US$1 million to a start-up loan fund specifically designed for women. This initiative aims to bolster female entrepreneurship in the Pacific island nation.

Moreover, Lin revealed plans to establish a new fund intended to support local businesses, further enhancing Taiwan’s commitment to economic development in the Marshall Islands. The announcement reflects Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to foster stronger ties with its diplomatic allies through targeted financial support.

“The funding will provide critical assistance to women looking to start their own businesses, as well as support for local enterprises that contribute to the economic growth of the Marshall Islands,” Lin stated during a press conference held in the capital, Majuro.

This move is part of Taiwan’s broader strategy to assist its allies in overcoming economic challenges and to promote sustainable development within the region. The announcement received praise from local officials, who highlighted the importance of empowering women and supporting small businesses as key factors in driving economic progress.

In recent years, Taiwan has been actively involved in various development projects in the Marshall Islands, focusing on areas such as agriculture, renewable energy, and education. The additional funding is seen as a significant step towards reinforcing these collaborative efforts and enhancing the resilience of local communities.

As the Marshall Islands continue to navigate economic fluctuations and challenges associated with climate change, Taiwan’s financial support is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring a more stable and prosperous future for the island nation.
