Basic-Fit, the leading budget fitness chain in Europe, has recently announced a significant data breach, affecting members across several countries. The company operates over 1,300 clubs throughout Europe, maintaining a substantial presence in the Netherlands.
Unauthorized access to their systems resulted in the exposure of sensitive member information, including names, addresses, email accounts, phone numbers, dates of birth, and bank account details. Fortunately, the breach did not compromise passwords or identity documents.
The Dutch Data Protection Authority has been informed of the incident as Basic-Fit works to assess and contain the damage. Members are being notified, and the company is urging vigilance against potential phishing attempts linked to the leaked data.
This breach poses serious risks for affected individuals, as their personal information may be misused for identity theft or fraud. Basic-Fit’s reputation could also suffer lasting damage, raising concerns about data security within the fitness industry.
