Traeger has long been synonymous with premium pellet grills, providing enthusiasts with high-end features and advanced grilling technology. The company previously introduced the Woodridge model, aimed at cost-conscious consumers. However, its latest offering, the Westwood series, takes affordability a step further, with starting prices at $700.
The Westwood series presents a simplified design and operational functionality, replacing traditional knobs with a button-based controller. Users can enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity for remote monitoring via the Traeger app, while the grills feature a side-mounted hopper and a two-tier cooking setup. Despite these enhancements, the Westwood lacks advanced features found in more expensive models.
While maintaining the brand’s characteristic ease of use, the Westwood grills come with notable trade-offs. Absences include advanced cooking modes such as Super Smoke and Keep Warm. The functionality is limited to one wired food probe, requiring users to strategize cooking sessions accordingly. Additionally, there’s no pellet sensor for fuel tracking, a useful feature in Traeger’s premium offerings.
This release coincides with Traeger’s financial challenges and ongoing restructuring processes. to more budget-friendly models, the company aims to regain market traction. The Westwood and Westwood XL replace the popular Pro series and are now available at retailers like Ace Hardware.
