Apple and Google Under Fire for Promoting Controversial Nudify Apps

Published on April 16, 2026

Apple and Google have long been seen as gatekeepers of digital content, maintaining policies that prohibit sexual and pornographic material across their platforms. However, reports reveal that a range of nudify apps, which use AI technology to create sexualized images, are not only still available but being promoted in both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.

The Tech Transparency Project recently documented the prevalence of these apps, highlighting that searches for terms like “nudify” and “undress” lead users to tools designed to create explicit content. Shockingly, many of these applications are rated “E” for Everyone, raising concerns about their accessibility to children.

The report details that 18 nudify apps are found on Apple’s platform and 20 on Google Play, generating approximately $122 million in revenue with nearly 483 million downloads. Despite both companies’ stated policies against such content, many of these apps continue to thrive, some even marketed with sexual imagery or capable of producing deepfake technology.

This situation has prompted growing scrutiny and legislative responses. Governments, including the UK’s Children’s Commissioner, are calling for strict regulations to ban AI-driven deepfake apps that can produce inappropriate content, especially concerning minors. As public outcry mounts, both tech giants are facing increasing pressure to enforce their own policies and protect users from potential harm.
