Meta previously set competitive prices for its virtual reality hardware, appealing to both gamers and tech enthusiasts. The company launched the Quest 3 with excitement, offering advanced features that promised an immersive experience.
However, a global shortage of RAM has forced Meta to adjust its pricing strategy. Starting April 19th, the 128GB Quest 3S will retail for $349.99, while the 256GB model will cost $449.99. The flagship Quest 3 headset is set to jump by $100, now priced at $599.99.
The increase comes as manufacturers face challenges securing the components needed for production. This has sparked concerns in the tech community, which worries that rising costs could deter potential buyers and slow the growth of the VR market.
The price hikes may lead to reduced sales and could impact Meta’s position in the increasingly competitive VR landscape. Customers may seek alternative options, stifling innovation and limiting access to cutting-edge technology for casual users and gamers alike.
