The virtual reality landscape has been a competitive arena, with prices for devices remaining relatively stable. Meta’s Quest lineup has attracted users looking for immersive experiences at an accessible price point. However, starting April 19, that narrative will change, as Meta announces significant price increases for their headsets.
The company primarily attributes the price hikes to a surge in RAM costs driven by a global chip shortage. AI companies have dramatically increased demand, putting pressure on hardware manufacturers. Alongside Meta, Sony and Microsoft have also responded to similar shortages, raising prices on their consoles and PCs recently.
