For years, the James Bond franchise has been synonymous with iconic theme songs performed -tier artists. As gaming continues to merge with cinematic storytelling, IO Interactive has announced its latest collaboration, bringing Lana Del Rey into the fold for their upcoming title, 007 First Light.
The partnership marks a notable evolution from traditional Bond themes, as Del Rey co-wrote and performed the game’s title track along with composer David Arnold. The game offers a fresh take on the iconic spy, focusing on his earlier, more reckless days. This direction promises to intertwine new gameplay mechanics, influenced ’s work on the Hitman series, with the character’s evolving narrative.
Del Rey’s connection to video game culture might be best illustrated single, “Video Games.” Though it referenced her past relationships, her knack for dramatic storytelling fits snugly with the Bond universe. Interestingly, she had also penned a piece for the 2017 film Spectre, showcasing her long-standing interest in the franchise.
007 First Light is set to release on May 27, 2026, for multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. In a twist, a version for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive later, echoing the challenges of adapting to new technological landscapes within the gaming industry.
