The New Glenn rocket from Blue Origin was launched from Cape Canaveral, appearing to perform well initially. The mission, however, ended in failure as the rocket was unable to place its payload into the intended orbit.
The Federal Aviation Administration has classified the incident as a “mishap” and has started an investigation. The FAA aims to understand the root cause and ensure public safety before the rocket can return to flight.
Details regarding the mission’s failure remain sparse, but telemetry data indicates that the satellite only reached a 95-mile orbit, far below the required 285 miles. This miscalculation has raised concerns among experts and stakeholders.
This marks the third mission for New Glenn and its second grounding . The situation could impact Blue Origin’s upcoming satellite launches, including the scheduled deployment of Amazon’s broadband satellites later this year.
