The digital landscape was turned upside down recently when AI company Clarifai announced the deletion of 3 million profile photos from dating site OKCupid. This came to light after a settlement reached between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Match Group, OKCupid’s parent company, regarding privacy violations dating back to 2014.
In the wake of growing scrutiny, Clarifai confirmed on April 7 that it had erased not only the photos but also any associated models trained on that data. The deletion was part of a response to the FTC’s investigation, which began in 2019 after revelations about Clarifai’s unauthorized use of OKCupid’s user images.
