Recently, British surgeon Ara Darzi spoke at WIRED Health, highlighting the potential of AI to address this crisis. Advanced algorithms could improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosing infections. However, the current healthcare landscape lacks the necessary incentives to spur innovation.
The gap between technological potential and practical application is widening. Although AI tools are developed, they often fail to make it to market. Challenges like funding and regulatory hurdles hinder their accessibility to patients.
The consequences of inaction are dire. Without effective solutions, millions will continue to suffer from untreatable infections. If AI can’t bridge this gap, the fight against antibiotic resistance may be lost.
