For over 60 years, the CIA’s The World Factbook served as a vital resource for global information. This compilation provided statistics, maps, and unique insights into countries and territories around the world. It was a go-to reference for researchers, students, and curious minds alike.
However, in February 2023, the CIA abruptly removed The World Factbook from its website, erasing all its pages without prior warning. This sudden disappearance left many users without access to a rich archive of international data that had become integral to their research and understanding of global affairs.
In response, a collective effort led to the creation of OpenFactBook, a community-driven platform designed to fill the void left . This new site hosts a similar array of information as its predecessor, combining data from the original Factbook with additional resources from the World Bank and other reputable sources.
OpenFactBook not only restores access to essential global facts but also enhances the user experience with features like a country comparison tool. Now, anyone can easily explore and analyze diverse information about nations, ensuring this valuable knowledge remains available for future generations.
