In Stockholm, the Andon Café operates under a unique model where an AI agent named “Mona” oversees business operations. While human baristas continue to brew coffee, Mona manages hiring, inventory, and more, assisted ’s Gemini technology.
The café has faced challenges since launching in mid-April. Despite generating more than $5,700 in sales, it struggles to maintain profitability, with costs quickly outpacing income from an initial budget of over $21,000.
Customer interest remains high, with many amused ’s ability to respond to questions over a café telephone. Yet, the café’s operational hiccups have led to misunderstandings, such as placing excessive orders for items like napkins and gloves, which clutter storage and confuse baristas.
