Bitwarden, a prominent provider of free password management solutions, is undergoing significant leadership changes. CEO Michael Crandell has transitioned to an advisory role, with Michael Sullivan now at the helm. This shift comes with little public acknowledgment from the company, which has left customers unaware of the new direction.
The company’s CFO, Stephen Morrison, departed shortly after Crandell, replaced . Both executives were integral to Bitwarden since 2019, leaving many to question the future of the company that began as a simple hob founder Kyle Spearrin.
In tandem with leadership changes, Bitwarden has quietly revised its website. The phrase “Always free” has vanished from the personal password manager section, and “Inclusion” and “Transparency” have been removed from its core values. The rebranded acronym now emphasizes “Innovation” and “Trust,” signaling a shift in corporate culture.
These adjustments follow Bitwarden’s recent price increase for its Premium plan, raising eyebrows about the company’s commitment to free services. Without clear communication regarding these changes, customers are left to speculate whether the company’s foundational principles are being compromised.
