Pope Leo XIV addressed the pressing issue of artificial intelligence in warfare during a visit to La Sapienza University in Rome. His remarks came amidst rising military investments in high-tech weaponry. In a powerful speech, he criticized the dramatic increases in military spending this year, particularly in Europe. He raised concerns that unchecked advancements could detach human accountability from warfare, potentially deepening humanitarian crises. “What is happening in Ukraine, in Gaza… illustrates the inhuman evolution of the relationship between war and new technologies,” he stated.

Among them, 19-year-old Nada Rahim Jouda expressed awe at her new surroundings while worrying about her family back home. The pope’s call for peace and justice highlights the contrasting realities faced conflict-affected areas and those seeking a better future.
