Azercell Telecom LLC, a leading provider in Azerbaijan’s telecommunications sector, aimed to enhance customer service through AI. The company recognized the potential of a large language model tailored for Azerbaijani to support a customer-facing chatbot and telecom applications.
However, the initiative faced significant hurdles. Building a model for a morphologically rich language like Azerbaijani presented unique challenges, given the scarcity of training data. Additionally, no established frameworks existed for efficiently training language models in this context.
Over a span of six weeks, Azercell collaborated with the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center. Together, they developed a production-ready framework on Amazon SageMaker, adapting foundation models to meet the linguistic nuances of Azerbaijani.
The successful implementation marks a turning point for digital interaction in Azerbaijan. It promises improved customer engagement and sets a precedent for future AI developments in the region, reinforcing Azercell’s leadership in telecom innovation.
