Swiss startup GR3N has long aimed to tackle the global plastic waste crisis. Traditionally, recycling polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has posed significant challenges, with conventional methods relying heavily on energy and producing limited results. The cleantech company has now secured €15.5 million in Series B funding to address these issues.
The funding round was led by 360 Capital, with participation from new investor VP Textile. The capital will be channeled into creating MODUS, a groundbreaking facility in Spain aimed at processing 40,000 tons of PET annually using microwave-assisted technology. This innovation promises to enhance recycling efficiency and sustainability.
As the MODUS facility moves into development, GR3N stands to pioneer an entirely new approach to recycling PET, a material in high demand globally. The facility is expected to address environmental concerns consumption and improving material recovery rates. This shift could set a precedent for future recycling technologies.
The implications of this project extend beyond the startup itself; they resonate throughout the plastics industry and the environment. Should GR3N succeed, it could inspire similar innovations, stimulate economic growth, and significantly reduce plastic waste, creating a cleaner future for global communities.
