The much-anticipated green corridor project in Lucknow, designed to facilitate smoother traffic flow and reduce congestion, has instead turned into a source of frustration for commuters. Recent changes to traffic regulations, particularly at critical crossings near Daliganj and Hanuman Setu, have rendered the project counterproductive, with many drivers experiencing longer delays and increased travel times.
As part of the initiative, city planners aimed to create a seamless route for emergency vehicles and daily commuters. However, the implementation of new diversions and poorly designed intersections has complicated the intended benefits. Traffic has been severely congested at these key points, causing confusion and leading to unsafe situations for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Local residents and frequent commuters have expressed their disappointment, citing that the new traffic arrangements do not just defeat the purpose of a green corridor but also elevate air pollution due to idling vehicles caught in bottlenecks. The initial promise of reducing travel time has been overshadowed movement of cars, particularly during peak hours, intensifying the very problems the project sought to alleviate.
Experts suggest that the traffic department must reassess the design of the new intersections and diversions. They emphasize the importance of incorporating feedback from citizens and conducting thorough traffic flow studies before implementing such changes. Without these adjustments, the green corridor may remain a problematic venture rather than the efficient route it was intended to be.
Commuters are now calling for immediate measures to rectify the situation, including better signage, clearer direction for navigating the new layout, and a potential re-evaluation of traffic light timings to allow for improved flow. As it stands, the green corridor, initially hailed as a transformative project for Lucknow, risks being remembered as a significant misstep in urban planning.
