The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has successfully passed a budget of Rs 9,332 crore after an intense 12-hour debate that concluded just past midnight. This budget reflects an increase of Rs 414 crore compared to the previous fiscal year, a move that has been met with both enthusiasm and criticism from various quarters.
During the lengthy discussions, municipal officials actively considered a total of 1,100 suggestions put forth and various stakeholders. These inputs were aimed at addressing key issues within the municipality, emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure, waste management, and enhanced public services.
The budget allocation is divided into several sectors, with substantial portions earmarked for health care, education, and urban infrastructure development. This is particularly significant as the corporation prepares to face the challenges of rapid urbanization and the growing demands of the city’s residents.
Opposition parties have raised concerns over the budget’s focus, arguing that more needs to be done to ensure equitable distribution of resources across all sectors. They highlighted the importance of early planning and execution of various projects to benefit the underprivileged sections of the city.
Supporters of the budget have praised the council’s transparency and responsiveness to public feedback, suggesting that the inclusion of numerous suggestions indicates a commitment to participatory governance. The expanded budget aims not only to improve the quality of life for residents but also to boost the local economy through infrastructure enhancements.
As the new fiscal year begins, the PCMC is tasked with implementing the budget effectively while fostering an environment of collaboration with the community. The success of these initiatives will be closely monitored and critics alike as the city moves forward into a new phase of development.
