The Bihar state government, through its rural development initiative, JEEViKA, has unveiled an ambitious plan to promote between 500,000 and 1,000,000 women-run business enterprises in the region. This initiative aims to empower women with the necessary financial support and resources to start and grow their own businesses.
According to officials involved in the project, the plan focuses on encouraging 50 to 100 women from each panchayat—the smallest administrative division in India—to apply for government grants of up to ₹2 lakh. These grants will be instrumental in helping women take their businesses to the next level, building on the foundations laid funding of ₹10,000 each, provided in instalments.
