Apple’s Call Recording Feature Raises Privacy Concerns

For years, iPhone users have relied on their devices to ensure private conversations remain just that. However, with the introduction of iOS 18.1, Apple enabled a call recording feature that has left many unaware their conversations might be recorded without their consent.

The feature allows users to record calls directly through the Phone app, seemingly enhancing convenience. Yet, the implementation raises significant privacy issues, as users are not adequately informed when their calls are being recorded and have no means to control this process.

While both participants in a call receive an audio alert when recording starts, only the person initiating the recording sees a consistent notification on their screen. Consequently, the other party remains in the dark, potentially having their conversations captured without realizing it.

As privacy advocates voice their concerns, the absence of robust user controls contradicts Apple’s advertised commitment to user privacy. Calls for an overhaul of this feature are growing louder, emphasizing the need for clear notifications and better user control to restore trust among iPhone users.
