The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has expressed outrage over the government’s failure to take action following recent violent attacks on minority families in Jashore. In the wake of the murder of a Krishak Dal leader, attackers reportedly looted and burned homes, as well as assaulted women, instigating fear and chaos among the local communities.
Despite the severity of the situation, the council notes that no arrests have been made, intensifying their calls for swift justice. “It is unacceptable that those who perpetrated such heinous acts remain at large. The lack of action from law enforcement is not only disappointing but feeds into a cycle of violence against minority groups in Bangladesh,” a representative of the council stated.
The Unity Council is also demanding compensation for the victims of these attacks, citing the considerable damage done to property and the psychological impact on the community. They have urged the government to prioritize the safety and protection of minority populations, warning that ongoing inaction could lead to further unrest.
Community leaders emphasize the need for immediate arrests of the attackers, arguing that failure to act will undermine public trust in governmental and judicial systems. “Our communities are vulnerable, and the silence from officials is telling. We expect the government to stand with us and ensure our safety,” they added.
The council’s concerns reflect broader issues regarding the protection of minority rights in Bangladesh, where incidents of violence against non-Muslim communities have been reported in the past. They are calling on both national and local authorities to address these grievances urgently, ensuring that justice is served and that such incidents do not occur again.
