‘BJP Against Infiltrators, Not Indigenous Muslims’: Amit Shah In Assam

Published on April 2, 2026

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to protecting the interests of indigenous people in Assam while categorically stating that the party is against infiltrators, not indigenous Muslims. Shah made these remarks during a campaign rally in the state, where he sought support for the ruling ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and its candidate Keshab Mahanta, a senior minister in the Assam government.

Addressing a large gathering, Shah asserted that the BJP’s agenda is to safeguard the identity and rights of the Assamese people. He reiterated that the party’s stance is firmly against illegal immigrants, clarifying that the focus should be on ensuring security and development for the citizens of Assam. This message, he said, has been a cornerstone of the party’s policies since it came into power.

“We are not against indigenous Muslims who have been living here for generations. Our fight is against infiltrators who threaten the social fabric of Assam,” Shah declared. He urged the people to distinguish between genuine residents of the state and those who illegally entered the country.

Highlighting the government’s achievements under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shah pointed to various developmental projects and initiatives that have aimed to improve the lives of the state’s residents. He stressed the importance of electing candidates like Mahanta, who he believes can continue to propel Assam forward on the path of growth and stability.

The rally was also a platform for Shah to underline the BJP’s commitment to preserving the culture and heritage of Assam, asserting that such values are integral to the party’s vision for the state. The Home Minister’s remarks come amidst a politically charged environment in Assam, where issues of migration and identity continue to be contentious topics.

As the election approaches, the BJP is keen to solidify its support base in the region, amidst increasing competition from opposition parties. Shah’s speech aimed not only to rally support for the AGP but also to reinforce the BJP’s narrative of being the true protector of Assam’s interests.
