Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve 21 Launches Photo Editing Tool to Compete with Adobe

Published on April 14, 2026

Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve has been a staple in video editing, but the introduction of Resolve 21 signals a broader ambition. At the NAB 2026 convention, the company unveiled a new Photo page that seeks to rival industry mainstays like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. This update allows creators to efficiently crop and color-correct still images directly within the platform.

The newly introduced Photo page simplifies the workflow manage photographs, including RAW files, in an organized manner. Previously, photo editing was relegated to video timelines; now, it enables faster editing with a powerful node-based color correction system. This system provides tools comparable, if not superior, to those in Adobe’s offerings.

The Photo page offers capabilities like primary color correction, curves, and power windows, along with unique features like complex grading via nodes. Users can see real-time updates while editing entire albums or make individual adjustments. The integration of AI tools for adjustments, such as facial reshaping, enhances its versatility, accommodating both photographers and videographers.

As a result, professional photographers now have a comprehensive suite for tethering cameras and adjusting settings directly within Resolve. This shift may disrupt established markets, compelling users to consider a switch from Adobe’s ecosystem. The impact of this launch could reshape workflows for both still and motion graphics professionals in the creative industry.
