The automotive landscape was dominated engines and plug-in hybrids, but BMW is steering toward the future with the launch of its 2027 7-Series lineup. This extensive update marks a significant shift, focusing on electric mobility while maintaining luxury and performance standards. The introduction of two new i7 electric sedans symbolizes BMW’s commitment to an electrified future.
The announcement of the i7 50 xDrive and i7 60 xDrive comes with enhanced features, including higher battery efficiency and innovative design. Both models boast new battery packs with a 20 percent increase in energy density, allowing the i7 60 xDrive to achieve an impressive EPA-estimated 350 miles on a single charge. The charging process has also been expedited, with a capability to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.
These vehicles are equipped with dual motors, delivering remarkable power and acceleration. The i7 50 xDrive achieves 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, while the i7 60 xDrive does it in only 4.6 seconds. Additionally, features like adaptive recuperation and AI-supported route planning enhance the driving experience, presenting a responsive solution for everyday challenges such as traffic conditions.
As production begins in July 2026, the market response could reshape consumer expectations for luxury EVs. With prices starting at $106,200 for the i7 50 xDrive and $124,700 for the i7 60 xDrive, BMW aims to redefine luxury vehicle standards while embracing sustainable driving. This move could not only attract eco-conscious consumers but also influence other manufacturers to accelerate their electric offerings.
