Ashley Westwood is no stranger to the vibrant tapestry of Indian football. His emphasis on discipline while also creating a family environment was something I took very seriously,” Westwood noted.
As he embarks on his new chapter with Kerala Blasters, Westwood is focused on revitalizing the squad and instilling a winning mentality. The team currently sits low on the ISL table, and Westwood is determined to turn their fortunes around. “I’ve witnessed the passionate fan base here at Kerala Blasters, and I understand how much they love the game. It’s about bringing back that winning spirit and connecting with the supporters,” he said.
Drawing parallels between both his previous experience with Bengaluru FC and the challenges at his current club, Westwood acknowledged the common issues many teams face in the league. “Every team in the ISL has its own identity, but the fundamentals of success remain the same. It’s about building a solid team ethos, creating tactical flexibility, and ensuring every player understands their role and responsibilities,” he explained.
Westwood also touched on the importance of integrating local talent into the team. “India has an abundance of exceptional players who are eager to learn and grow. It’s crucial that we harness that potential and give them opportunities to shine on the big stage,” he emphasized.
