For years, DaVinci Resolve has been known primarily as a powerful color grading tool, favored post-production professionals. Traditionally, it has held little appeal for photographers, overshadowed editing software like Adobe Lightroom. But the arrival of DaVinci Resolve 21 introduces a new Photo page, promising a fresh take for casual users who edit both video and images.
With its latest update, Blackmagic Design aims to challenge Adobe’s dominance. The new Photo page allows users to edit RAW images using powerful color grading tools originally designed for video. This change has sparked curiosity and debate among creatives, especially those questioning the necessity of their Adobe subscriptions in light of new functionalities.
Initial tests reveal that while the beta version boasts advanced editing capabilities, it is not without its issues. The software now supports RAW files across major camera brands and offers features such as AI-driven search and simplified organization. However, users may encounter bugs, and professionals accustomed to Lightroom’s comprehensive suite might find the transition challenging.
