The monumental success of *Torrente presidente* has brought back to the forefront of cinema the genre of crude, irreverent, and scatological comedy that provided countless moments of laughter in the past. This revival recalls the works of Mel Brooks and the Zucker brothers, alongside Jim Abrahams, which were mainstays in theaters. Therefore, it’s an opportune moment to revisit some classic films from this genre. In this light, I’d like to highlight two titles from the 1970s: *They Call Me Trinity* (1970) and *Blazing Saddles* (1974). Both films are parodies of Western cinema where grime, fart jokes, and burps serve as the foundation of their humor.
*They Call Me Trinity* is an Italian production directed by E.B. Clucher that parodied the spaghetti western genre, which was pioneered Sergio Leone six years prior in Almería. The film starred Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, who had previously worked together, but it was this film that launched one of the most famous artistic duos of the 70s and early 80s. It set the stage for the fight comedies and naive humor that they starred in, such as *Watch Out, We’re Mad!*, *Who Finds a Friend Finds a Treasure*, and *Two Supercops*, among several others. Moreover, this film gave birth to a legendary song, which was even used in *Django Unchained*. Of course, a success like this warranted a sequel: *Trinity Is Still My Name*.
*Blazing Saddles*, on the other hand, is an American production from the king of parody, Mel Brooks. Interestingly, this particular film was not as universally acclaimed as his other works, such as *Young Frankenstein*, *History of the World, Part I*, or *Spaceballs*. Nevertheless, scenes like the black sheriff taking himself hostage or the group of cowboys farting around a campfire are quite memorable. It is funny and entertaining, but obviously, it does not hold the same iconic status as the Hill-Spencer duo’s classic.
