For years, fans of the beloved Ecco the Dolphin series have patiently awaited news on its future. Originally launched in the early 1990s, the franchise has remained dormant, leaving many players nostalgic for its unique underwater adventures. Creator Ed Annunziata has recently rekindled interest with plans for a complete package that promises to honor the original games.
Annunziata’s studio, A&R Atelier, announced Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, which merges remasters of the classic titles with a brand-new sequel. Though no release date has been disclosed, the developers described this project as “the complete, definitive Ecco the Dolphin experience.” It will feature graphical enhancements, speedrunning tools, achievements, and customizable courses from existing levels.
This revival follows a tumultuous journey for Annunziata, who, in 2013, pursued legal action against Sega to reclaim the series’ rights. After a failed Kickstarter attempt for a spiritual successor, a settlement was reached in 2016, potentially clearing the path for this new project. The culmination of these efforts appears now in the form of Ecco the Dolphin: Complete.
As anticipation builds, the gaming community expresses excitement at the prospect of revisiting a cherished franchise. The announcement reflects not only a comeback for Ecco but also a renewed hope for classic game revivals.
