Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, was once seen as a staple of modern communication. However, the status quo has shifted dramatically as investigators in Paris have summoned Musk and other key figures for questioning regarding serious allegations involving the spread of child sexual abuse images.
In February, French authorities conducted a search of X’s offices, which marked the beginning of a formal inquiry into the platform’s operations. Accusations have emerged around the platform’s AI system, Grok, which supposedly facilitated the dissemination of harmful content, raising flags about compliance with French law.
The investigation quickly expanded as reports indicated that Grok’s activity extended to generating deepfake content that included Holocaust denial and sexually explicit materials. French prosecutors are now examining potential complicity in the propagation of these images, which could carry significant legal ramifications for Musk and his associates.
The consequences of this unfolding situation are far-reaching. Prosecutors have also alerted U.S. authorities, suggesting that the scandal may have been orchestrated to artificially inflate the value of Musk’s companies, including a planned stock listing for a merger. As the investigation proceeds, the future of Musk’s ventures and the integrity of X hang in the balance.
