The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently advancing its air traffic management capabilities. Traditionally, air traffic controllers managed conflicts with a 15-minute prediction window. This system, however, has become strained as air travel demand has surged.
In response to growing concerns, notably highlighted crash, the FAA is developing SMART (Strategic Management of Airspace Routing Trajectories). The initiative aims to extend conflict predictions to two hours. Palantir, Thales, and the startup Air Space Intelligence are vying for the contract to deliver this advanced AI system.
