FCIMérida, vigésima edición.

The twentieth edition of the Mérida Film Festival has officially kicked off, celebrating a remarkable milestone in the realm of independent cinema. Contrary to the famous tango’s saying, this festival is indeed a grand affair: featuring numerous wonderful films, appreciative audiences, a youth eager to engage with the big screen, and cinephiles discovering their oasis amidst the often barren landscape of alternative releases beyond the major urban centers.

As stated filmmaker José Luis Cuerda, a festival of this nature is not merely timely; it is also essential. Twenty editions, including a global pandemic in between, represent a civic miracle, one that only those who eagerly anticipate it each year can truly appreciate in its full significance.

Now, let’s delve into the official selection:

– Little Amélie
– Resurrection
– Stories from the Good Valley
– Watch Shift
– La Grazia
– Rebuilding
– A Poet
– Three Goodbyes
– The Surprise Film

Additionally, there will be the premiere of The Short én, screened in a double feature with Little Amélie.

In the section dedicated to cinema for schools, the following films will be showcased:

– Ponyo on the Cliff
– Wild Ones
– The Boy and the Heron
– My Life at Full Scale
– The Story of Souleymane
– Daniela Forever

Moreover, the festival is set to offer:

A retrospective exhibition of festival posters, the Miradas Awards, a Young Jury, and a Closing Gala.

To commemorate this anniversary, a dedicated channel on Filmin (filmin.es/canal/festival-de-cine-inedito-de-merida) will feature films from all twenty editions.

It may be challenging, but it is not impossible. Thank you for enduring this cinematic journey.
