Chandigarh is making significant strides in its transition to cleaner energy ambitious target to quintuple the usage of piped natural gas (PNG) in the region. This initiative aims to promote sustainable energy solutions and reduce the city’s dependency on traditional fossil fuels.
The city plans to increase its current PNG supply from 5.5 lakh connections to an impressive 28 lakh connections 2030. This ambitious expansion is part of Chandigarh’s broader strategy to enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which aligns with national goals for environmental conservation.
Officials have indicated that this increase in PNG connections will not only cater to residential needs but also extend to commercial and industrial sectors. PNG usage, Chandigarh aims to provide a cleaner alternative for cooking and heating, there quality for its residents.
The initiative appears particularly timely given the growing concerns surrounding air pollution and climate change. Switching to piped natural gas can significantly minimize the emissions created , which are currently prevalent in many households.
The Chandigarh administration is working closely with gas distribution companies to facilitate this transition. It is also focused on raising public awareness about the benefits of using PNG, including convenience and safety compared to traditional cooking fuels.
As part of this gas shift initiative, infrastructure development is expected to ramp up, including the installation of new pipelines and distribution networks essential for reaching more residents and businesses.
Chandigarh’s commitment to enhancing its PNG supply not only positions it as a leader in energy transformation among Indian cities but also sets a precedent for sustainability initiatives nationwide.
